Understanding Double Eyelid Surgery
Double eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in Korea. It creates a crease in the upper eyelid, making eyes appear larger and more defined.
Surgical Techniques
There are two main methods:
- Incisional Method: A permanent solution involving a small incision along the eyelid. Ideal for those with excess skin or fat.
- Non-Incisional (Suture) Method: Uses sutures to create the fold without cutting. Shorter recovery but may not be suitable for everyone.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
Ideal candidates include those who:
- Want to create or enhance an eyelid crease
- Have droopy or hooded eyelids
- Want to correct asymmetrical eyelids
- Are in good overall health
Recovery Process
Swelling peaks 2-3 days after surgery and significantly reduces within 1-2 weeks. Most patients return to work within 5-7 days, though complete healing takes 2-3 months.
Results and Longevity
Results from incisional blepharoplasty are typically permanent. Non-incisional results may last 3-7 years depending on individual factors.
