I never thought I would be writing this review, but here I am, six months post-op and finally happy with my eyes after years of struggle. My story begins with a botched double eyelid surgery I had done in California three years ago. The surgeon created uneven creases - one eye was 7mm and the other was barely 5mm. I looked perpetually surprised on one side and sleepy on the other.

After consulting with five different surgeons in the US, they all said revision would be very difficult and results unpredictable. One even suggested I just learn to live with it. That was not an option for me.

Why I Chose Korea

Through extensive research on revision surgery, I kept seeing Korean surgeons discussed as the experts in fixing difficult cases. I joined several Facebook groups and Korean plastic surgery forums, and Hani Plastic Surgery kept coming up for eye revisions specifically. They apparently see a lot of international patients seeking corrections.

Consultation Experience

I had a video consultation first, which was incredibly thorough. I sent them photos and my previous surgical records. The surgeon explained exactly what went wrong with my first surgery and showed me before/after photos of similar revision cases. He was honest that revision is more complex than primary surgery and the recovery would be longer.

The Surgery Day

I flew into Incheon Airport and took the AREX to Seoul Station, then a short taxi to Gangnam. The clinic arranged my hotel nearby. Surgery day was actually calmer than I expected. The staff spoke excellent English and walked me through everything. The procedure took about 2 hours under local anesthesia with sedation.

Recovery Timeline:
Week 1: Significant swelling, more than my first surgery. Kept ice packs on constantly. Could not go outside without sunglasses.
Week 2: Swelling reduced by about 50%. Could see the creases were finally even! Stitches removed on day 7.
Week 3-4: Still some residual swelling but I felt comfortable going out. The difference was already dramatic.
Month 2-3: The creases settled into their final position. Both eyes matched perfectly for the first time in three years.
Month 6 (now): Completely healed. My eyes look natural, symmetrical, and exactly what I originally wanted.

Cost Breakdown: The revision surgery cost about 3500 USD, which included the consultation, surgery, all follow-up appointments, and medications. Compare this to the quotes I got in the US ranging from 8000 to 12000.

What I Learned:
1. Korean surgeons see a much higher volume of Asian eye surgeries, including revisions
2. Video consultations are worth doing to assess communication and expertise
3. Plan for a longer recovery with revision surgery
4. Staying near the clinic for follow-ups is important
5. The investment in flying to Korea was absolutely worth it for specialized expertise

For anyone considering eye revision surgery, especially if you have had a less than ideal result from another surgeon, I highly recommend exploring Korean options. My only regret is not doing this sooner instead of suffering with uneven eyes for three years.
