Silicone implant vs. rib cartilage for Korean rhinoplasty - which is better?
RhinoplastyI am considering rhinoplasty in Korea and cannot decide between silicone implant and rib cartilage (autologous) for my nose bridge. I understand that silicone is more affordable and has shorter surgery time, but I am worried about long-term complications like contracture or implant visibility. On the other hand, rib cartilage seems more natural but involves harvesting cartilage from my rib, which sounds quite invasive. For those who have had Korean rhinoplasty, which method did you choose and why? How has your nose held up over time? Are there any other materials I should consider?

Both are good options with different trade-offs. Silicone (or Gore-Tex) on the bridge is affordable, predictable, and quick, but carries a small long-term risk of contracture, shifting, or visibility in very thin skin — so it is usually limited to the bridge, never the tip. Autologous rib cartilage is the most robust choice for significant augmentation or revision, integrates naturally, and avoids implant-related issues, but it is more invasive (a small chest harvest site) and can occasionally warp. Many Korean surgeons use a hybrid: a small implant or the patient's septal/ear cartilage for the bridge and tip. Material choice should follow your skin thickness, how much height you want, and whether it is a primary or revision case.
